I love being legal.

I have to say, the excitement I felt back in January when I turned 21 has died down immensely. I don’t know why, but I felt that turning 21 would make me feel different (you know, just like how you think turning 16 and 18 would make you feel like a whole new person) Well obviously I didn’t feel any different at all. Granted, I have been going to bars since I was roughly 18, I really thought like I would feel like this incredibly older person.

Not so much.

However, it is much more convenient for both Justin and myself that I am now of legal age to purchase adult beverages. I think he was getting tired of running to the store for random things like wine or tequila when I’m trying a new recipe. Like the one time, I was making tequila lime chicken and needed just half a cup of Jose. Justin, being the savvy shopper he is, comes how with three gallons because it was “on sale”. haha, I do love him. Justin has a hard time controlling his excitement, even at 25, when venturing into the liquor store. He usually comes out with enough alcohol for many, many good nights. Maybe that’s the reason we never fight, we’re always drunk 😉 I kid. No really, we get along very well, with or without alcohol, which I hear makes for a good marriage. Speaking of marriage, I do wish I could move up our date sometimes, but right now I think we both have the house bug so bad that even I would rather spring for a house right now over a wedding. House before wedding. I think we’re doing it wrong. haha. Well, we were living in sin before we got engaged, and since we’re already living together might as well go for the gold. And I really want a cat. Our landlord is a cat hater, so that’s on hold right now. Anyway, on to the weekend fun.

So last night we enjoyed a Saturday night out in Hilliards, PA. It’s about a 20 minute drive from our place to check out a new bar called the Just Inn (haha, very punny) and to see a band called The Huckin’ Fillbilly’s. That’s them on the left, in case you were wondering. They were really great! There was a lot of energy and contrary to the name, they played all classic rock. If you’re in the eastern Ohio or Western PA area I would highly recommend catching a show. Justin and I ducked out a little early, but I do plan on seeing them again for a whole show. This was also the first time we ventured to this bar, and I have to say the Just Inn is pretty awesome. I don’t like super-huge bars, nor do I really care for hole in the walls. This place was a great size, great service, good food, and the people that went there seem like normal people. haha. It’s also in a great location- the middle of nowhere. It’s a nice calm drive back home on all back roads, which is something I severely miss since moving to Butler. We both want to live basically in the middle of nowhere, where you cannot see your neighbors. That’s pretty pricey, but you never know what you may come across. Who knows, maybe out dream house is nothing of what we were expecting. I would really like to go back soon, sometime next month I hope.

Today is Sunday, obviously. I work 10-4 on Sundays, and although I hate working on the weekend, I like the shift. I can’t wait to have that 9-5 or whatever day job once I’m done with school. I can’t wait to come home and be able to actually cook a dinner for Justin and myself (and future kids) and not have to pack it up in Tupperware because we are at work during dinnertime. That would be great. Until then, however, I will just have to deal.
And I have to say, I can pull off a dinner pretty well 😉 This was for Justin because he started having major cravings for ham. I have to say it was pretty amazing, and only lasted maybe…3 days. I discovered my future husband is a serious picker with ham. I’ll probably make another one for around the holidays. Maybe we’ll have our own private holiday dinner before we are running around like mad people as we try to hit all the family dinners. That’s the part I actually don’t care much for for the holidays. I wish both our families would just be in one place! Tonight is going to be pizza night, and in my new money-conscious mind set, Justin and I are going to make pizza from scratch together =) I discovered yet another blog that’s quickly becoming a daily read, and she has a great looking recipe for a pizza crust from scratch. I’m pretty excited to try it. I’ll take some pictures and share the struggle or triumph of my first attempt at pizza-from-scratch.

That’s all for now. Back to Monday again, unfortunately. Hopefully next week Justin and I will start squaring away some details for the upcoming Halloween festivities. I’d love to find a place to go out for Halloween, maybe we’ll hit that bar again. I do love Halloween. Maybe I’ll even share some pictures of Halloween past. wee!

Eep. Christmas is creeeeeping up! I know the holiday is completely commercialized and has pretty much lost the real meaning, but I still love the holiday season. Also, I’d like to share with you a possibly very helpful find from The Consumerist: FreeShipping.org. That may very well come in handy for the holiday shopping. Everyone knows that with some digging you can find better deals on the internet than in retail stores, the only problem is that once you add on the shipping cost, you barely have much of a price difference, especially for bigger items. One thing I’m excited to see there is a coupon for Fredricks.com (NSFW-ish). The local store half an hour away closed, and I love Fredricks. A lot of the stuff there makes for great his and hers gifts 😉

I can’t wait for this Saturday. Justin and I are going to check out a new bar we’ve never been to, and it comes with a concert! The Huckin’ Fillbilly’s. Are playing, and for $5 a person to listen to live classic and southern rock all night? Oh hell yeah 😉 We don’t really go out to bars too often. Sometimes I wish we did more, but that’s because I’m only 21. The difference with me is that I’m engaged to someone who has been there and done that, and we both have responsibilities. I would like to make it a monthly thing though. I really like the atmosphere, especially when there’s a band, love, love, love that!

My to-do list is starting to get a little long. Saturday will be a busy day, I promised Justin we will scrub down our place top to bottom before going out. We also decided that even though we’ve been living there since December, our place still doesn’t look “homey” enough. Staying true to my newfound love of saving money, I found this amazing website. We rent our townhouse, obviously, so although we’re allowed to put nail holes in the wall to our hearts content, we’re not allowed to paint. Now with those instructions, I can go out to a fabric and craft store and buy cheap fabric for less than a dollar a yard. We’re not going to cover an entire wall, but some accents would look really nice. I’m the DIY queen, and when we have a lot of downtime at work I like to look for things to do. When I have more time/money, I’d love to take a painting class. Until then, I’ll be crafting my little heart out when it comes to start things for the wedding. I found another nifty little site for DIYers, especially those who like to cook, Budget101. It gives you all these ways to create things like tortillas, buns, and brown sugar. Back to basics, right? There’s so much I want to try. I wish I had more time on my hands!

Now to go totally off topic, I think I found my next tattoo:
Isn’t that an amazing picture? I already have a dragon tattoo, which I’ll dig up a picture of some other time, but this one is just…amazing. I’m thinking of getting it scaled down, it will really depend on how much smaller it can be made, and I’d like it on my wrist with Jut’s and my initials where the tails twist together at the bottom there. I’m not sure where else I would put it. I’m pretty sure any field I’m heading for won’t care about a little wrist tattoo, unlike my original idea that I would like to be a teacher…pshh.

In any case. Saturday is looking to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait to try the decorating idea with Justin and hopefully capture some photographic memories. I also can’t wait for the rum and cokes later on. heh.

What a great weekend!
Saturday Justin and I made the journey to see Journey =) Also Heart and Cheap Trick, and I have to say everyone was absolutely freaking amazing!
To the right we have the first performance, Cheap Trick. Now I’ll admit, I wasn’t really excited to have to wait a few hours to see Journey, but I can’t believe how amazing these guys were! I’ve really discovered some new (well, technically old) music. For example, Cheap Trick’s “The Flame
Wherever you go, I’ll be with you.
Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.
Whenever you need someone
to lay your heart and head upon.
Remember: after the fire,
after all the rain,
I will be the flame.
I will be the flame.

I never thought I’d be a classic rock fan. I listened to Britney Spears growing up! Although don’t get me wrong, I’m still all for team Britney, I have to say that rock is quickly surpassing everything as my favorite. After Cheap Trick, Heart performed. Now these women have pipes! It’s actually funny, before Justin and I got together one of my favorite songs that kind of reminded me of how I was feeling about him at the time was Heart’s “Alone
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
You don’t know how long I have wanted
To touch your lips and hold you tight.
You don’t know how long I have waited
and I was going to tell you tonight
But the secret is still my own
and my love for you is still unknown
Alone

It was very fitting at the time, because Justin was someone I really was not supposed to have feelings for. Him being my friends boyfriend and one of my ex’s best friends and all…but it’s funny how life works out =) We’re pretty damn cute if I do say so myself. It’s kind of crazy to look back at all the craziness that we’ve gone through to get to where we are, but even if I had the ability to go back and change anything about our past I wouldn’t even mess with it. We have technically been together going on two years now, engaged for almost two months. I still look at him every once in awhile and wonder how I got so lucky. No one makes me smile like he does, and no one ever has. I wonder if there truly is a soul mate out there for everyone. I’m inclined to say yes, but I think it’s a whole other game to actually meet that person. Justin and I met under some interesting circumstances, but through it we became friends and fell in love. I don’t think love like this happens everyday, but I could just be full of it and quoting lines from The Princess Bride . Oh well =)
And the whole reason for the nearly five-hour long drive! That’s FREAKING JOURNEY! Nothing beats hearing “Don’t Stop Believin” and “Faithfully” played live. I actually cried when they played Don’t Stop Believin’. Justin and I sang it to each other =)
Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on…
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people

The whole night was just amazing. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. We were a little worried we were doomed to drink Coors Light, who was sponsoring the event, but they had good beer too 😉 This was definitely my favorite concert ever, but I have my sights set on more to come. I want to do some myspace research and find some local bands to entertain us in the winter when we have to go to a bar to keep warm. haha. I know, no one wants to see that. Too baaad. I have a thing about taking kissy pictures. I have a thing about pictures period. ha. I think I have about 500 pictures in my camera that need to be printed out and put into albums, but I just never think about it while I’m at walmart. One of these days I’m going to be able to fill a dozen bookshelves with all the pictures I take, hooray digital cameras! I’ve taken to taking a zillion pictures of certain things and then simply deleting the ones I don’t like. I wish there was a place for me in the photography industry. I don’t think I’m competitive enough to make anything out of it. One day I hope to just take an amateur class and learn more, but that will come later…much later..when I get all these other classes out of the way.
Speaking of classes. back to school Monday…well, technically Tuesday for me. I only have class Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (score!) So at least this semester won’t kill me too badly. I’m hoping I really only have 3 left. Emphasis on the hope.

Victor Hugo said: “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”

Is there really anything better than discovering or rediscovering some truly amazing songs? Now I’m a real late-comer to classic rock songs. Being in my early twenties it’s not my fault, I swear! I have developed a deep love for Journey over the last couple years, and Justin, being the amazing man he is, gave me the oppertunity to go see them. They’re touring with two other big names; Heart and Cheap Trick. Obviously I was only into the concert for Journey, but I figured I should know a couple well-known songs by the others so I have half a clue what’s going on before Journey gets on. I have to say, I have fallen head over heals for these other two bands. I didn’t even know Heart was actually fronted by two sisters. I’m more excited than ever!

Music simply has the ability to change your mood. “This is just a dream” by Carrie Underwood makes me SOB, but five minutes later something else comes on and I’m all happy and smiley. It’s amazing. I cannot even begin to express how excited I am for Saturday! I can’t wait for all that concert energy!

Oh, hello. I’m an emotional wrecking ball right now. Nothing major, just hormonal. ha.

Anyway, life will be good after this Monday. My summer classes will be over, and Friday the 1st Justin and I are heading out of town and down to Baltimore for a nice romantic getaway =) That Friday night I reserved for us to go on a crab feast night cruise, I’m seriously pumped for, and Justin and I both love seafood. It will be a nice little three day weekend for us.

August is actually looking to be pretty awesome. Justin, being the most amazing man ever, got us Journey tickets for the 16th!
yay! Seriously, if you haven’t heard any of their new stuff yet, you’re missing out. They have a new singer, as the original one is ill, but the new one is absolutely amazing. Honestly, unless you’re an extreme Journey fan you would not even notice the difference. The new CD has one disk of all new songs, and the second disk is a re-recording of their classic hits, and they did a wonderful job! I seriously can’t wait! August is full of concerts, Lori and I are going to see Poison on the 10th, and we’re all heading to see Gretchen Wilson on the 20th. yay concerts =)

I’ve been looking for some local bands too. If anyone’s in the Western PA, Eastern Ohio area and has some recommendations I’m all ears. I’d like to find some cheap outdoor concerts to go to before all this nice warm weather runs out on this poor Pennsylvania girl!
